Josephine Udonsak

Josephine is a Partner in the Energy and Project Finance practice group of Adepetun Caxton-Martins Agbor & Segun (Dentons ACAS-Law), a leading, full service, commercial law firm in Nigeria.

With over 10 years’ experience in legal practice, Josephine has acquired expertise across diverse aspects of the energy and infrastructure sectors, including oil and gas, conventional energy, and renewable energy matters; she co-heads the firm’s Sustainability Practice.

Josephine advises a wide range of indigenous and foreign clients, including project developers and investors, in various phases of their operations – from the initial structuring of the operating entity through joint venture partnerships, strategic alliances, or other commercial arrangements to licensing and regulatory compliance issues, financing decisions, restructuring and diversification efforts, asset acquisitions and disposals, divestments or company mergers and acquisitions, and other general commercial matters ancillary to their corporate activities. She is routinely involved in conducting legal due diligence, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating transaction documents, and advising on the regulatory framework for multi-party and cross-border projects.

Josephine has co-authored the following publications: the Nigeria chapter in the International Comparative Legal Guide – Oil & Gas Regulation 2023 (18th Edition); A Review of the Business Facilitation Act and its Impact on the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (2023); Regulating the Relationship Between Host Communities and Upstream Petroleum Operators (2022); and Focus on Doing Business in Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia (2020). She also delivered a presentation on “The Role of Policy and Regulation in Enabling Energy Efficiency and the Deployment of Renewable Energy” at the 2022 Nigeria Energy Conference. 

She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Laws (LLM)
degree in International Commercial Law from the University of Aberdeen.
